History of Sriwedari Park, Most visited Park in Surakarta.

Historically before the Sriwedari Park was built, the area around that place was known as Talawangi Village, which is now better known as Kadipolo, where the northern boundary is Jalan Besar Purwosari (now Jalan Slamet Riyadi), on the west bordering Jalan Mangunjayan (now Jalan Bayangkara) , the eastern boundary is Jalan Pasar Kembang (now Honggowongso Road), and to the south borders Jalan Besar Baron (now Jalan Dr. Rajiman). Dr. Rajiman is the oldest road in the city of Solo before it was built on Jalan Slamet Riyadi. The road was made when Kraton Kartasura was to be moved to a new palace in the village of Sala (Solo).

On the north side of the Sriwedari main road, there is Gumuk Village, where in the past there were many dune-mounds, which eventually became muted, hence this area was called Kampung Gumuk.
Whereas the village to the west of Gumuk is Gentan, but after the area stands Dalem (house) Pangeran Mangkubumi, the area is known as Kampung Mangkubumen until now.

South side of a large roadside Gumuk, precisely in front of Sriwedari Park, at that time there was a tree that was so shady, which was so comfortable to shelter during the dry season. The area was then known as Benda, which became a tram stop from Sangkrah to Purwosari. The tram used to be from Purwosari to the east until Gladag, then turn north past Vastenburg Fortress and Pasar Gede to the north towards Jebres Station. But when Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Arya (KGPAA) Mangkunegoro IV enthroned, the tram line was moved from Purwosari to the east to Sangkrah and then east again to the south until Baturetno crossed Sukoharjo, Nguter and Wonogiri.

At the time of moving the palace from Kartasura to Solo (Surakarta) in 1745, in Solo there was still a lot of land that was wide before. But after entering his era Ingkang Sinuwun Kanjeng Susuhunan (ISKS) Paku Buwono X (1839-1939) was already crowded. While those who run the government at that time were Pepatihdalem Kanjeng Raden Adipati Sosrodiningrat IV. Sang Patih, who was responsible for running the government, thought about the progress and benefits for the government, so he ordered to work on the Talawangi land, which for many years was still a vast land that had not been utilized. The land of Talawangi is already known to supernatural courtiers in the Kartasura Palace that the land of Talawangi which is considered haunted deserves to belong to the king. After cleaning, a garden was created, which was named Sriwedari Park. Many people call Kebon Rojo or Kebun owned by the king.

The making of the Sriwedari Park cost thousands of guilders, because in it animals were kept hunted by various colors classified by type.

Since today Sriwedari Park still the most visited park in Solo. Lots event also regularly held in this. It also often used to showing a performance art  such ketoprak, campur sari, and wayang show.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. - Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi
