Kraton Surakarta
Who doesnt know Surakarta? or well known as Solo. The city with thousand culture and its unique language. Surakarta located on middle java, Indonesia. Lots of people already know about this city but we wonder if they knew about historical story of Surakarta.
The story begins when Sunan Pakubuwana II
ordered Tumenggung Honggowongso and Tumenggung Mangkuyudo and Commander of the
Dutch forces J.A.B Van Hohenndorff to find the location of the capital of the
new Islamic Mataram kingdom. After considering physical and non-physical
factors finally a village was chosen on the banks of the Bengawan River called
Sala village (1746 AD or 1671 Java). From that time Sala village changed to
Surakarta Hadiningrat and continued to grow rapidly.
The city of Surakarta was originally the
territory of the Mataram kingdom. This city was once the center of Mataram's
government. Because of the Giyanti Agreement (February 13, 1755), Islamic
Mataram was divided because of the propaganda of Dutch colonialism. Then there
was a breakdown of the center of government in two, namely the central
government in Surakarta and Yogyakarta. The government in Surakarta was divided
again because the Treaty of Salatiga (1767) became Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran.
In 1742, the Chinese rebelled and resisted
the authority of Pakubuwana II who reigned in Kartasura so that the Kartasura
Palace was destroyed and Pakubuwana II left Ponorogo, East Java. With VOC
assistance the rebellion was crushed and Kartasura was captured again. In lieu
of the ruined royal capital, the New Palace was established in Surakarta 20 km
to the south east of Kartasura on February 18, 1745. This event was then
considered the starting point for the establishment of the Surakarta Kasunanan
palace.
The name Surakarta Hadiningrat follows the
ancestral instincts, that the Kingdom of Mataram was centered in Karta, then to
Pleret, then moved to Wanakarta, which was later renamed Kartasura. Surakarta
Hadiningrat means the hope of the creation of a state that governs the rule of
karta raharja (orderly and safe and peaceful), and must be accompanied by
determination and courage to face all obstacles that face (sura) to realize a
beautiful world life (Hadiningrat). Thus, the word "Karta" was
reappeared as a manifestation of a request for blessings from the ancestors of
the forebears and the establishment of the kingdom of Mataram.
The history of the name of the city of Solo
itself is because this area was once overgrown with Sala trees (a kind of pine
tree) as written in Babad Sengkala fibers stored in the Sana Budaya Yogyakarta.
Sala comes from the original Javanese language (Javanese pronunciation: Solo)
In the end people know him by the name of the City of Solo.
